M8S Firmware Update Service Now Available

This has been in a works for a while now and we’re finally able to offer an Android 5.1.1 update service to our M8S customers!
A newer version of Android, What? Why?
You may or may not be aware that the M8S was never supposed to be able to run anything above Anroid 4.4 and nobody was developing for it since they were all focusing on other devices – maybe hoping that you would eventually just buy a new one. But why would anyone neglect a perfectly good device, with high performance hardware inside? Certainly not us.
Now, having anything newer than Android 4.4 would never be a concern if KODI did not drop these devices from their support list on versions of KODI 17 and above. But they did. And now our lovely M8S TV boxes can’t run anything above 16.1.
Needless to say, we did not take this laying down and after many sleepless nights, were able to create a custom Android 5.1.1 firmware for your M8S device that will allow you to properly run KODI 17 and future versions! Yay!
Should I update?
When KODI 17 was first released, we wouldn’t have advocated an update. However much time has passed, a lot has changed, and things have been fixed. At this point, we do recommend it for the best streaming experience. Why? Because many add-ons now are only supporting KODI 17 and it’s new HTTPS support for securing your connection. This is a good thing! And because if this, those on KODI 17 will always have improved availability and results.
But of course, the decision to update can only be made by you. If things are running fine with you on 16.1 (and they very well may be!) then feel free to keep things the way they are. The good news here is that you now have the option 🙂
A Cost?
We wish we could perform this service for you for free, and if there was an easy way to facilitate this remotely somehow, we certainly would. But, yes. Since this is a physical service, and efforts to develop this firmware weren’t cheap for us – there is an associated cost with it.
