Isn’t that a mouthful? Well, it’s worth mentioning.

The truth is, we’ve been including these new keyboard remotes with our bundles for a short while now but we just wanted to make an official statement about it. Why is this so important? Because nearly EVERYONE else is selling the knockoff/cloned version of this remote and it’s giving users a horrible experience. The cloned version is plagued with low quality components which results in very short range, bad touch pad performance, sticky keys, failed batteries and of course – no backlight.

How do I know my remote is genuine?

It will be pretty obvious. Genuine Rii remotes come in a light brown box, with the Rii logo and QR code stamped on it. But most importantly, it will come with an anti-counterfeit code that you can enter online to verify that your product is genuine. There are a few other tell-tale signs on the product itself. The logo is printed on the touch-pad, it has a backlight, and the logo and model information is printed clearly on the back of the unit. One thing worth mentioning is that genuine Rii remotes do NOT have a replaceable battery. The batteries are rechargeable and internal. The reason the clones have a replaceable battery is because is constantly fail and do not hold a charge.

How does the performance compare?

For starters, a genuine remote will work as expected. Range is not an issue, and wherever you touch on the touch pad, your mouse is going to be on your screen. The accuracy is amazing. The key response is also accurate and consistent. There is tactile feedback with each button press and when you press that key, only a single character shows up on screen. The keys on the clone remote will “stick” and send multiple characters with each key press, leaveing you constantly backspacing and re-typing. Though with all that said, our favourite feature is the backlight! The entire key pad is illuminated so you can use this remote in dark environments without guessing where the keys are. The backlight is clear and non-intrusive. It will also automatically shut off when not in use to conserve battery.

So how can I get one?

Well, there are two ways really. We include this keyboard in every TV box bundle so if you’re in the market for a TV box, you don’t have to purchase this separately. However, if you already own a TV box, then we definitely will not hold out. You can purchase these bad boys on their own right from our shop.
