What Is An Android TV Box?

In short, your Android TV box is a small and powerful mini computer. It runs the Android operating system (much like a mobile phone) but has been optimized specifically to stream and play music and movies, and shows on your TV. But don’t feel that the TV box is limited to only playing music and videos. You can add your Google account and download your favourite Android apps right from the Play Store. You can use it as a full-blown computer by sending email, creating graphics, playing games and using office tools to create documents. Don’t forget your TV box also has USB ports which allow you to connect wireless peripherals like cameras, keyboards, a mouse and even external hard drives and USB flash drives. From your external storage, you can play all of your local video and music files as well. KODI is second to none at playing local media files and supports almost every format imaginable.

Streaming is the process of watching video or audio content online while the data temporarily caches onto your device and is immediately removed after the content has been played. This serves two purposes. 1) You can play your content instantly without having to download it first. 2) It keeps your storage from getting full.

There is nothing illegal about streaming as long as you aren’t breaking any copyright laws in your country. If you are unsure, check with your country’s laws to see if the temporary reproduction of content is legal for you to view. This is completely up to you! There is almost a stream for anything you can think of – so your new job is to get familiar with your TV box and explore all of its contents. You’ll only end up using this or that but you need to go over everything to find out where to find your favorite content. Then you can just add it all to your favorites list! (go figure).

This is probably our customer’s number one question – what’s the deal with the cheaper Android boxes?

We’ll give you the simple answer first. The old adage “you get what you pay for” stands very tall in the TV box world.

Here’s the long answer. Most of these boxes do not come with any kind of warranty (even if they are passed off at such) and they usually arent more than 30 or 90 days. On top of that, if the warranty is even honored, be prepared to ship your device back to China (about a $60 shipping cost) and wait 2-3 weeks for it to come back. Pretty scary, right? Want to know what’s worse? Nearly all “cheap” boxes are clones. The original system design has been deviated from in China to create a cheaper product with cheaper components. So now you face a high failure rate with a crappy warranty. Not a nice situation to be in, especially if you like watching TV. But what do you really expect from a $90 “computer” that is supposed to work wonders? These cheap devices simply aren’t built to last. It’s not over though. There is now the larger, more important issue of programming. The clones are not programmed, and if they are – it’s disaster. We’ve seen them! Half of the software doesn’t work and you better be prepared to do a lot of homework and become an expert in programming content into your TV box because, with a clone, you will need to do that almost right away to get it working properly. It also will not have a custom and easy to use menu system.

The TV box has one HDMI port and as such, can support video output to ONE display. If you want to equip other TVs with a TV box you will need to purchase another one. However, we will say that these devices are very easy to move around and you can also move it between TVs.
